The Qinghai-Tibet Railway, a landmark project under the Western Development Strategy, is one of China’s Four Great Projects of the New Century. Stretching 1,956 kilometers from Xining in Qinghai Province in the east to Lhasa in Tibet in the west, the railway’s eastern section—from Xining to Golmud (814 km)—was completed in 1979 and began operations in 1984. The western segment, from Golmud to Lhasa, starts in Golmud City, Qinghai Province, and passes through key locations such as Nachedai, Wudaoliang, Tuotuohe, and Yanshiping.
